Recently I introduced a group of people, here in Minneapolis, to the FISH! Philosophy. Given what I do for a living (introduce people to the FISH! Philosophy) that may not seem "blog-worthy". I usually present the philosophy to people in workplaces be it schools, manufacturing companies, retail or restaurants. However this was a group of people that are looking for their next job.
This was a presentation at he recent Job Summit for the Minnesota Recruiting and Staffing Association (MNRSA). I have presented to this group before but it was to business owners/operators - not job-seekers. I knew this was going to be interesting because, let's face it, the guys at Pike Place Fish have jobs. So, showing one of the most engaged workplaces ever to folks trying to find ANY workplace seemed a bit odd.
Here's the link - If you are looking for a job - that's your job. One more time with that, if you are currently looking for a job, you "job" is to find y'all-self a job. The question I posed to folks at the Job Summit was, "Are you engaging in your job search with the same energy and passion that the guys at Pike Place Fish show up with?"
What would be the difference at the point of interview if you showed up "FISH"y? Being fully present, creative, full of wonder for the position, helping them find the best employee and choosing an attitude that you are that person. That kind of behavior would warrent special attention, raising your resume to the top of the pile and put your name in the front of their heads!
We need to engage in whatever we do. So, who are you being while you're doing what you're doing? Even if that is looking for something to do! :)
Here is a list of the folks we met and their contact information (with permission). If you have a job in the profession they are seeking, please consider them - they've been FISH!-ized!
Thanks,
Jay
