Witnessing the terrible devastation and loss of life from the bushfires in my country makes me very grateful that my family and friends weren’t affected.

The human spirit is a powerful force. This was brought home by a man being interviewed on tv. He and his family had lost three homes and all their possessions.
His comment was, “we are not victims, we are survivors.”

How many people you know want to be ‘victims’ of Life? It is always someone else’s fault. It is up to the Government, the company or society to make their circumstances better. They never step up to take responsibility for their choices.

All of us are where we are from the choices we made and make. Life may throw some ugly situations at us but it is how we react either consciously or subconsciously that determines our circumstances.

Don’t be a victim. Be honest with yourself and have the courage to face up to your responsibilities however painful this may be. Unless we are willing to grow and realise we can change our lives for the better, we will always be waiting for someone else to flick the switch. What if they don’t turn up?

Life is a Gift. Make sure you treasure it and pass it on to those you love and meet on your journey.

Hi Mick
Hear, Hear. Thank you for highlighting the terrible tragedy that continues to reek havoc in Victoria which are the worst bushfires in our country's history which are devastating much of the State and has taken lives of many people and animals both domestic and native.
The choices we make about our responses have a lot to do with our perspectives but also the 'meaning' that we allocate to different events.
I was amazed and moved to tears by your folk up there who have suffered massive loss because of the floods you've had in QLD who are giving their financial compensation away to families in Victoria who they say are 'worse off'. Those QLDers are not victims but rather survivors and victors by choosing this attitude and also making the day/life of their grateful recipients.
Wonderful choices are being made by people all over the country (and overseas) as millions of dollars flow in from individuals and business alike for those people whose family, animals, homes and possesions were taken by fire. And unfortunately it's not over yet. Many fires still burn and many homes and lives will remain at risk as helpers work around the clock to rescue, provide shelter, comfort and food to those who have already been affected.
Keep up the great work, Mick. You're an inspiration at a time when what we need to focus on not: "Why did this happen?" but ask questions like: "What can do I do to help", "What can I do to improve the situation" However difficult that must be.
