Overseas travel

Well, using FISH at work seems quite easy, particularly when you have built a culture that empasses FISH within the organisation, using FISH in the real world is perhaps more confronting.

Why do I think that? Well, having travelled half way around the world and having lined up in every queue in Europe (a slight exaggeration) I have endured the raving of many people that perhaps needed to be introduced the philosophy! However I must say that during these times I quietly evoked an intern

Di - infinity fabulous

Di Olsson, a FISH networker and joyful learner champion brings a lot of joy to our school, she is dynamic, passionate and probably wouldnt mind me describing her as a rough diamond?

Last week she was telling me all about a session she did with some undergraduate teachers, and how worried she was that they were not in fact "joyful" learners themselves. Di being Di then created a most interesting activity to get some "joy" happening. Without stealing her thunder..........because I'd ask

Melody Moments

Who is Melody? She is a most beautiful (in spirit) little Prep child in our school. She is bubbly, cheery and a delight to be around. We tell her mother often how lucky she is to have Melody and what a wonderful job she has done to bring this precious gift to us.

Melody is also very matter of fact, her opinions count and she knows it, she is one the best examples of someone that knows the power she has to make others happy. The other day I was on yard duty and Melody skipped up to me..

The fishing stories get bigger and better

Ok, its time for some more FISH stories. Today was just the most wonderful example. I was sitting in my office talking to Raelee about the things we had to complete today, just a general "catchup" time when Debbie the secretary came through the door asking if I could see a parent that had an issue to discuss with me. As we have an open door policy I asked her in. There we were, Raelee, the parent, and myself, sitting around my office table. Angela has been a parent at our school this ye

Fish tales from Trafalgar

Hi all,
Today I wasnt feeling very well so took myself off to the local doctor who is also a new parent at my school. I couldnt believe his enthusiasm for FISH. He thanked me for introducing adult concepts to his kids that were so easily understood through the FISH principles and admitted that it had taken him 35 years to appreciate the same concepts. His smile and enthusiasm radiated as he told me that he over heard his children having a conversation and couldnt believe it when he heard Emm… Continue

Hi Vicki--

My blogs are more for personal use. I don't really care if I generate interest or not, I'm just writing for the sake of writing. The "personal" blog has nothing to do with education, it's just really about my life in general. The preschool teacher blog, is more about how things are going where I work and what is working for me. Again, I'm not really writing for an audience, per se, I'm just writing to document what I have found is working for me. I'm sort of a "techie" so blogging versus writing things down on paper is what I prefer. This is not a blog where I'm striving toward educational leadership, it's more for personal use and if others happen to stumble in to join in, then I'm okay with that.

The final blog, again, is more for personal use. I'm not writing really for anyone but myself. I'm working toward becoming an adjunct. I want to document that process and again, if anyone else stumbles in and happens to find the information useful, then so be it.

I guess my point is, I'm not using my blogs to promote educational leadership. They are mainly documentations of things that I'm working on in life, what is working for me, and what is not.

It's so exciting to hear that your school has adopted this philosophy. I'm eager to know how this got started and where to begin in my own work.

IHi Vicki,
just wrote a blog but I'm not sure where it goes or went. Technologically retarded, Ollie would say. See if you can find it? if you can't I'll get you to help me move it so the world can see.
Today was very exciting, don't you think. I was just loving Traf today. Your Denver news is so fabulous you must be feeling up yourself about that one.
You know I'm going to hate .4 but I'm going to be a fabulous mum and zart consultant. Then when I'm sick of being a good mum I hope one day to teach a grade and show the world that someone that taught art for ever can do a brilliant job in the classroom.

Hey, Vicki, we now have several elementary principals here. Two have joined recently. Search the Members area for 'principal' and they should be visible.

Hi Vicki,
The music was just part of the joy of working with 2 x grade 5/6 today. I just love teaching these kids. They are so capable and they seem to be very comfortable in the art room. I really do believe that the school's values are showcased in a grade 5/6 art class. When I say i love teaching these kids, its not me directing, or orchestrating their every movement. The kids really do know what learning in our art room looks like, sounds like and feels like and i think they want it like that.So does it take 6 years to create a culture? What would it look like in a classroom when you're working with a group of kids every day? I believe 2 hour art sessions have supported the art program. I wonder if prep/one had 2 hour sessions would the learning have looked different? I wonder if the way we do things in art can be transfered to the learning of math concepts, writing, history, ....
Tonight, as part of my tragic life, I was doing water aerobics in the Hydro pool with all the 60 year olds. After the session i was having a conversation with another specialist teacher and we were discussing the impact teaching in a specialist area has on your career. We were discussing that we can be perceived to not have the classroom knowledge and expertise when only focusing on one curric area. Well now I really feel like crap. A, because I'm trapped in my profession and B, I did water aerobics.
The trip is booked!!!!! Leave on the 30 March for Paris (thanks for your apartment tip. i wonder if I could book it for 4 nights not a week?) Leave Rome on the 25th April. We are not going to make any plans just fly with the wind and inhale italy.
Thanks for the comment, now i might have a look around this network and see what's been happening as it has been awhile since I've been here.

Hi Vicki,
So sorry about the silence on this end. I am in the final stages of a major editing project, hundreds of pages, multiple videos... Too much to do, and I have been on the road doing workshops too - everything good, but very time consuming.

By mid-November my time should shift a little, but until then, I am running as if being chased by a very fast grizzly bear.

Glancing over the conversation threads, I see so many things I'd like to know more about. I'll have to peak in again when I can actually respond thoughtfully.

Talk to you all soon.

Hi Vicki,

I work for Emaar Properties in Dubai and I train their employees. It is a rather conservative company and I use Fish re customer service as a basic energizer to loosen them up and to educate them on the benefits of work and play and attitude.

Where do your friends work? Where do you work and live?

Regards,

Kathy

That might be a great idea - thanks a lot. We have personally been out today with invitations to 6 schools in our nabourhood, and we wait for the reaktions. We go out again tomorrow.
WHEN they say yes to come, and we plan the program, I might need a good story from you. If you should tell a story to danish teachers WHY FISH! is a great help in daily live living, from what YOU have learned - what would that story sound like? *smiles* from mette

Sorry for my relative silence - Lots of travel in the last few weeks. I'm feeling guilty because I now fall asleep almost instantly when I get on a plane, and I am certain that I snore.

I need to spend a little time getting caught up on all the e-mail, postings, and work that has piled up while doing workshops. The nice thing is that the workshops have received excellent feedback. My goal is to try and use The FISH! Philosophy to try and help educators focus on what matters most and will have the greatest positive impact on their students.

These workshops are also a great opportunity for me to learn about, get the pulse of, what is happening in particular schools or communities and in education in general.

So... Hopefully within a few days, I'll be able to make some noise again.

Hey Vic
I am working on keeping up with the stories hope you get a chance to read some while you are away but we will certainly have lots to tell you when you get back.
I'm not sure if I can keep the boys under control they are planning taking over one of the storerooms to set up a vodcasting and radio station at the moment. I made a comment in passing about a friend who runs the local station and maybe a thought at some stage to get some kids to broadcast!!! Anything could happen
