One fun activity we used was "Who Am I". We sent out an e-mail to the entire company and asked people to share some fun fact or experience in their life that most people would not know. "I went cave exploring" "I met Elvis" etc. On a poster board we picked 10 people from the submissions each week. We place the stories in column A and placed headshots of the people in column B (mixed up of course). The object of the game was for people to pick up a voting ballot at the front of the office and try to match the story with the person. The winner received a $5 gift card to the cafeteria in our building. People loved learning about their coworkers. Some of the stories were very interesting. Meeting Elvis - Yeah one of our employees danced with him in Hawaii. What was extra remarkable was that some of our tenured employees thought they knew everything about each other and this proved that there's always something more to the story. You just need to Be Present to find out.
I have a good one for home and classroom! We all get home from work or school at different times. Every one needs to vent and release the built up energy to those that are in our in our "safe zones"( we, the family members).Once we have released the toxic and non toxic summary of the day, we hold each other accountable for contributing only positive comments until after dinner...when it becomes a free for all. We all ,have the right to add a tick under the appropriate name of whoever is sarcastic, negative and just a plain downer. Whoever accumulates the most points, at the end of the week, has to do something special for the rest of us. Keeping in mind we are a family of 3, it is a very accurate read! It helps us to really understand how our attitude affects each other, and give thought as to how to make each other's day with whoever...loses!Carry THAT into a classroom and you have the students totally into ticking under names and holding each other accountable to choose who you intend to be.
Halloween just passed. I always look forward to this holiday because we like to celebrate. The "Fish Pond" (our group of spokespeople) ran three contests. 1. Costume Contest 2. Guess Boo (people in the company bring in childhood photos of themselves dressed in costume and the rest of the company tries to guess who's who.) 3. The Scary Treat Bake Off (Bring in a scary themed treat and we'll judge who's the most creative and whose tastes the best.) The company offers vacation days for the costume contest and some Wawa gift cards (Wawa is a convenience store that sells everything from hoagies and drinks to gas.) Lots of fun was had.
We've been working on defining the four elements of Fish as they pertain to our call center environment. Right now we're working on Choose Your Attitude. With the economy the way it is and constant stress, our Fish Pond created a Choose Your Attitude wall. We taped a yellow background paper (roughly 13' by 5') to the wall. Using different colored poster boards, the Fish Pond cut out the letters CHOOSE. I tasked our team to find different sayings, stories, poems, pictures, etc. that they felt helped them to choose their attitude each day. We then taped the stories, sayings, and poems to each letter in the word CHOOSE and attached the letters to the background paper for the entire company to see. We're still working out the details on what else to do with it, but at least it's reminding everyone they have a choice and if they're in need of some encouragement, they know where to look.
