Kids' learning today compared to kids' learning 10 years ago

This year marks a new milestone for both Trafalgar Primary School and myself and yet another area in which we hope to become ‘world famous.’ Over the past few months our old multipurpose room has been transformed into a modern technological hub for multimedia and music creation, communication and video production and the kids are thriving. It is inspiring to see kids totally engaged in learning new skills and applying old skills in new ways through technology, I love my job!

The world around us is moving and growing at such a rapid rate that it is difficult to predict the types of future employment and life opportunities that will be available for our kids. The world is changing and so are the skills required to become a successful and self sufficient citizen. I believe that the major impact of ICT is a change in the way way that we learn, communicate and think. Having considered this, we are embarking on a large scale multimedia, performing arts and communication project aimed at providing our students with the opportunities to develop high level ICT and creative skills that will assist them to be thinkers, problems solvers, skillful and eloquent communicators, cinematographers, musicians and independent learners. Through new means of presenting and researching their learning, students will be creative, be able to work in teams to solve problems, develop good communication and ICT skills.

I have seen many places almost refuse to accept that the way in which children learn differs greatly now to how they learned, communicated and used technology 10 years ago. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who has the same passion for exciting learning opportunities and technology as I do?

For those of you who have not seen it, check out Ken Robinson's talk on Schools Killing Creativity, you should check it out. Follow this link: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_c...

This video had a great impact on me and if you haven't seen it it is well worth a watch.
