Hi Ashwani,

One group activity we've done before for Make Their Day called "I appreciate you". First print out a piece of paper for everyone in your group with the words "I appreciate (blank line to fill in name):" at the top of the page. Then everyone has someone else in the group tape that piece of paper to their back. Then give the group 5 min to go around the room and write a sentence on why they appreciate that person. At the end of 5 min have them take off the piece of paper so they can read the compliments their coworkers wrote about them.

We did this at work a few years ago and one of my coworkers still has that sheet of paper posted on the wall in his office. It must have made his day!

Good luck to you with your presentation Ashwani!

That's a great activity. We did something similar, but had people stand in an outer and inner circle. The original pairs verbally exchanged something they appreciated/admired about their partner(s) and then the inner circle rotated to the next person...the inner circle continued to rotate until they came back to their original partner.

Hi Ashwani
I know its some time ago sence you posted this - but still I want to give you a fun activity for choosing your attitude.

Give everyone a paper with about 10 attitudes on it - it has to be the same 10 everyone has.
Then make them pair up.
Now one of you choose an attitude and use this to say NUMBERS - ex say 4786 with an angy attitude or say 1347 with love. They pick the numbers freely and the attitude from the list themselves.
Now -the other one must guess witch attitude was used to say the numbers.
Then they swicth - and you have them going for as long as its fun - something like 5-10 min.

Its about reading eachothers attitude - just by the way we say things...and then have a talk about how easy you can hear it, the attitude ppl are having - and what does that have to do with you.

Hope its usefull - I have fun with it everytime I done it with groups.
*smiles* from mette in Denmark :-))

Hi Ashwani,

I can share few simple activities I did in a FISH session which I conduct for the management.

for attitude:
As they came in for the training myself an a co trainer spoke to the delegates informally and got to know how they are feeling. When I started the session, I acknowledged their moods and got them to pick different moods or attitudes they have at the moment. (It ranged from sleepy, tired, cool, sick.. etc.)

I created a fish line and put blank FISH name tags up there. Got them to pick a tag and write their attitude. When I informed them that they will have to wear it going forward.. they were amused.. and not that comfortable..

Next I picked few with lousy attitudes and informed them that they have to deliver an important message to their staff. And asked them how they would feel conveying this message while wearing the attitude. Most of them did not want to wear their attitude at that moment. When I gave them choice that they can select any attitude from the list.. they were more than happy to select a positive attitude. I've noticed that they did keep that attitude through out the session.

Make Their Day:
For this I went to the staff and got them to write appreciation notes for their colleagues and managers. The delegates were completely unaware of this fact. Hence.. when I brought it out and distributed them to the delegates they were all pleasently surprised. Since then we have apprecaition notes going out very often..

Hi I have not been checking this network for a while so sorry if this is a late reply and of no use.
Make their day. I write letters to people or rather notes encouraging them about things I have noticed them doing or for just being themelves in the workplace. I also put random small gifts in peoples pigeon holes. One lady got fifty lollies, fifty smarties, fifty ??? all day long on her fiftieth birthday. the good thing was I did not get caught so she is still not sure who did it.

Along the lines of Make Their Day. I've used the paper on the back "I appreciate you" activity with my Fish spokespeople (group of people out of 250 employees who volunteer to head the Fish team). All of the people in the meeting loved the paper on the back so much that the excersice morphed into something for the entire company.

We have pictures of all employees in the company. We cropped each picture into a headshot of every employee and placed each picture on an individual blue 3x5 card with their full name. We decorated a wall near our kitchen, that is visible to everyone in the company at all times, like a beach scene and called this the extended summer event. We posted everyone's blank 3x5 card on the wall and at the top posted the words "I appreciate you becuase..." We then sent an e-mail to everyone in the company invivting them to come up to the wall and finish the sentence on the cards of their choice.

What happened?
1. Huge response. People came up to the wall within the first hour and started writing.
2. They made each others days and got an opportunity to express something they may not have said in person.
3. We got to know more people not just by name but by face as well.

The wall is still up and running after a month. Our plan is to take it down at the end of this month and give the 3x5 card to each person. Just a little personal touch to let them know what they are appreciated for. I can't explain how proud I am of my team for this initiative. What a great boost. We've been living Fish for 7 years and I'm always concerned about keeping it alive. This was a greast exercise that demonstrates how everyone in my company is stil swimming.

HI Bill
I LOVE that idea with the wall. Thanx for sharing. Even that we just are 2 ppl in my little comp. I will invite my partner to it - and do it, all next week. Im sure we have something new to write every day :-))

A nice thing to do is to invite everyone to Story-Time. Set some time as 30 min or so. Share a good storie with eachother about ppl done something speciel to you or others. It can be stories about collegues, or it can be personal stories. It can even be stories about how actions from famous ppl, who had an effect on your life. After the stories, you all go deeper in the attitudes behind the actions in the stories. Have a talk about how these attitudes are so important.

SMILES to all from Denmark and me, mette :-))

Hey Mette,
Story time sounds great. Nothing hits home like a ttrue story about a friends life experiences. You get to experience the emotion of the speaker instead of just reading about it in a book. Over the past few months we've been working on defining Make Their Day. One of tthe exercises I started with was tell us who has made your day in the past 2 months (work or personal) and what did they do. Then we discussed how each person felt and the ripple effect it had from that time forward.

One Choose Your Atitutde exercise I've been thinking about for a while is the "Famous Application". I read it in a book about games for the busy manager. I think it may have some benefit if it's "Baited". It's similar to a standard job interview application. Each member of the team gets a blank one. They then have to think of their favorite historical figure and fill in the application using examples from the historical person's life. I'm thinking about creating an application geared toward Choose Your Attitude so instead of previous jobs, maybe something like "What was I most remembered for? How did I impact the lives of others? How did the public view me? Why? etc." Once everyone has filled one out, they read the details on the application out loud except the name of the person. The other members of the team try to guess who that person chose. When all is said and done, the facilitator can talk about why they chose these people, how did their attiudes affect history, etc.

Hopefully will be fun.
