As we move further into the FISH philosophy a number of resources are being created. I thought this would be a nice way to share some of those with other Fish Philosophers. I have attached some intital posters I used in the staffroom and at the front office for parents to see.
Today I'm going to be working on a teaching plan around "choose your attitude" I'll post it when its done.
I know that there are plenty of great ideas out there, so lets share in the spirit of "making someones day".
Glad you liked them. I hope to get some more up when I return to Australia. In the meantime my staff have heaps of stuff that I'm trying to encourage them to add to our school website http://www.trafps.vic.edu.au

Hi
I've just come across the fish philosophy and think it would be great to use in my class of 25 10/11 year olds, I teach in a semi rural school which is totally open plan - all 140+ children in one big room. I have read the blog that your school is very much into fish, and love the posters. Any advice on getting started in fish would be great.
Mo,
We introduced FISH in our classrooms by asking the kids what they thought each of the pirnciples meant. MAke their day is a good one to start with. We did it by concentrating on one principle per week. The kids brainstormed ideas and these went up collectively. As a staff we decided to tuse the language of FISH also when we speak to the kids. So for example when a kids does something to another, instea of launching into the thats wrong you broke the rules routine we talk to them about whther that "made someones day" we then talk about how to repair the damage of not making someones day and use restorative practices to reinforce our beliefs.
Within the classroom you could then ask kids to think of ways that they can make peoples day withiout this costing anything, and then challenge them to do it. As a teacher you should come up with some creative ways you could do this for your kids
Ideas might be: Send a positive letter home to parents about something you observe, address it and send it properly through the mail rather than give it to the kid to take home.
Have a "lucky seat" day put a sticker under the seat and sometime in the day announce that a person has a lucky sticker under their seat that gives them choice of next activity, free time, a reward whatever it doesn't matter.
Get the grade to choose a person that they would like to "make the day of" could be the Principal (I live in hope) or the canteen manager or a parent that helps a lot but get them to collectively pick one person. THen work out a way that collectively the grade could do......then do it.
I think FISH works when you dont think too much about it, but just launch into action. SOmetings work others dont, that is something as educators we are used to, dont worry just do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that helps you some, but I'm happy to engage in more dialogue if you want.

Thanks for the advice Vicki. Last week I told my class the fish market place story and how I thought we could use some of the ideas in the class. They were very enthusiastic and I will go for it!
