Hi Ashwani,

In the original FISH! film you saw how the Pike Place Fish mongers created an engaging work-culture by being there for each other and their customers, making peoples day, bringing a playful, creative mindset to their work, and how choosing a helpful attitude positively influenced every aspect of their work. FISH! STICKS shows you that their great culture didn’t happen overnight. And that the four FISH! practices, BE THERE, PLAY, MAKE THEIR DAY, and CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE didn’t pop-up like magic out of thin air. Rather they emerged after Johnny (the owner of Pike Place Fish) invited his employees into a radically new conversation to redefine their work in order to create a work place where they trusted and cared for one another, and where they focused on delighting their customers, their vendors, and every person they encountered as they went about their work. Their bi-monthly conversations (which have now gone on for many years) serve to reinforce their intentions in their work, and to support one another in living out their vision. Additionally, FISH! STICKS lays out a three-step process to help keep a vision alive – COMMIT, BE IT, COACH IT.

COMMIT is a statement to your team members of how you plan to uniquely contribute to the vision, BE IT is about finding those opportunities daily and moment to moment to actualize your intentions. COACH IT is a non-hierarchical form of coaching where team members hold each other accountable for their commitments to the vision and to one another.

In addition to FISH! STICKS, you may want to also consider FISH! Culture and LeaderFISH!.

FISH! Culture is a unit based program that provides a step-by-step process for creating work place conversations that invite team members to explore how they can apply FISH! to their work.

LeaderFISH! heightens the awareness of leaders as to their impact on their employees, and it teaches them relationship building skills that will leave their employees more self-confident, autonomous, and effective in their work.
Hi Harry

Thank you so much for the response . You made my day .
I work in an organisation where Fish culture has been adopted but sometimes i feel they are loosing focus . how can i motivate them towards "Fish sticks ".
It's been said that your conversations about work not only impact your work culture --- they are your work culture. So, if you’re losing your focus on FISH! I’ll bet it’s because you’re not talking about it. The FISH! STICKS training film is clear about the importance of keeping FISH! alive through conversation, commitment, and holding each other accountable. Our FISH! Culture program provides a step-by-step method for teams to continue their FISH! conversations well into the future. Don’t forget that it was Johnny, the leader of Pike Place Fish, who initiated the conversations that led to a transformed work-culture at Pike Place Fish. So I highly recommend LeaderFISH! for leaders who want to have similar success in their organizations.

In addition to the above I highly recommend a recognition program that acknowledges people for acting on the values of FISH! in their work.
Hi Ashwani-
Greetings! My name is Kimmie and I am VP of Operations for a large Vision Care Group and an avid believer in FISH. I have seen its power first hand. We saw success not only with our people embracing FISH, but also in staying committed by regenerating that vision every single day. How did we do it? Well, we started by monthly staff meetings where the entire team could come together and share stories of the good, bad and sometimes the ugly of our FISH culture. Everyone attends. From the callcenter to the executives, we are one. It helped us all to keep focused on what our shared vision was. We reward and encourage our staff for "great fish moments" our patients tell us about. We also went "public" with our FISH vision and asked our patients to hold us accountable as well. We educated them on what it was through posters, counter cards and our website, then we asked them to rate us before they left. As a team, we also implemented a strategy I actually learned from the Ritz Carlton called daily line-ups. This is where we gather together each morning to share the happenings of the day, share any employee birthdays or anniversaries, share stories that caused joy in our previous days and share challenges that we could all participate in solving. Just the act of gathering with one another, built a better bond for us all and inspires us keep our focus. It also present a forum for us to be accountable for "who we are being", while were doing what were doing! Another suggestion would be to gather your troops and make a personal committment to one another to be "coachable". This is one of the hardest things to do, but often a turning point for many people when they can just admit they are human, learn to laugh at themselves and open up enough to be coached. This is where you will begin to see FISH STICK! It won't happen overnight. However, if you lead by example, allow even yourself to be coached, you will earn a high level of respect from your staff/co-workers and start to see others follow in your footsteps. I personally believe to make FISH Stick, it starts with ME. I also believe it has to be SEEN in action to make others say... "That's what it looks like"!

Keep the faith.........Kimmie
Thanks Kimmie -You helped me alot
