Today my boss gave me cards that are provided from ChartHouse. On the instructions for the cards it reads, "Recognition is about noticing. Use the Thank You cards for catching someone in the act of putting the FISH! Philosophy into practice..." The website on the card is: www.fishphilosophy.com/fishjourney
Anyway, after giving out a card immediately I had 39 left. That means I can give out a card every 10 days for the rest of the year. So, I put an appointment on my calendar that reminds me every 10 day's to tell someone "Thank-you" in using the FISH! Philosophy. I think this will be a great way to keep FISH! going and keep it fresh in our employee's minds. My boss, Mark (who just joined the FISH! network) has a stack, too. Together, we will really be able to appreciate our co-workers!
Hope this gives you another idea to implement FISH! where you are (and, more importantly, to keep it going)!
During one of our professional development FISH! Fridays the topic was MAKE THEIR DAY. I am the facilitator for our FISH! PD days. We used the THANK YOU NOTE activity right out of the facilitator guide. We used some existing postcards the school already had (i.e Cardinal-Grams). The "Grams" were used to send good notes to parents.
Teachers created hand drawn and authentic thank you notes to anyone in the school.
It MADE THE DAY of the giver and receiver. A very powerful idea.
Did this cost the school any money or time? NO. What did this do? Create a culture and climate where people feel appreciated.
Do any other educators have other concrete ideas on how to MAKE THE DAY of colleagues?
